“Mom gave me hundred chances…She always gives us a second chance and we are surviving on that second chance.” After graduating with a Bsc – Computer Science, Robert joined the Bank as an IT expert.
IT being crucial in Banking today and Managing the POS is all electronic business very dependent on computers with human support, Robert has to shoulder a unique responsibility to successfully man the POS, a call centre – his position requires quick thinking and a lot of risk taking and fast decision-making as the objective of the department is client satisfaction.
The current challenge of the POS is to maintain a world class service as the product targets the high end of market i.e. Travel and Entertainment, which caters for tourists and expats.
As Robert Says about the Challenges he faced during the implementation of the POS Units at NBC have made him a more responsible and proactive person, this all happened while he multitasked as business analyst to translate technological requirements to business needs for senior management - to make discussion on whether to use Dual Message System or Single Message System in the POS, to make sure the bank was ready for online slots provided by Visa – ( as missing the online slots leads to a wait for another slot which might take a month for base 1 or next available slots for base II).
Robert understands the need to know the Electronic Payment System jargon and translate them to business process and further more to IT concepts for effective management and for the success of the project.
For the department to deliver, Robert took the challenge to start the POS with a team he handpicked himself, building the team of non-technical people to appreciate the complex of IT and keep the morale of the team high “as sometime the systems do not deliver as promised and there are no options” one has take the responsibility to forge ahead with progress, however, being the manager of the department, he appreciates the importance of a close interpersonal relation with his team, he acknowledges buying them books to boost their performance and personal growth whenever he travels.
He makes sure the encouragement to the team to be multi skilled is always on the top of his list and the reward for such initiative is as often as possible, as the pain of trying new things can become almost unbearable “there were times we could submit reports more than five times and still our boss will see gaps in the logic, we have graduated to make the sky our limit.”
The challenge of Keeping up with huge targets Robert and his team have set for themselves to achieve has constantly kept them on their feet, and with perseverance the department manages to achieve the targets on monthly basis, Robert says; from the time of starting of project to where we are now is a phenomenal rise. Being a religious man armed with a strong conviction in the almighty God, Robert attributes his performance to the strength and humility that is his hallmark as young professional.
